Education has always been central to our mission, and we work to help students see what is possible for their futures and to give them the encouragement and tools to reach it. Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy
For girls ages 11-14
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy was created out of an urgent sense that bold action was needed to save our young females, ages 11-14, from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and limit futures. The Delta Academy program provides an opportunity to enhance the education our young girls receive across the nation. Specifically, we augment their scholarship in math, science, and technology, their opportunities to provide service in the form of leadership through service learning defined as the cultivation and maintenance of relationships. A primary goal of the program is to prepare young girls for full participation as leaders in the 21st Century. Program Schedule: Meets monthly on Saturdays from November through June, typically on the first Saturday of the month. |
Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS Program
For girls ages, 14-18
Delta GEMS (Growing & Empowering Myself Successfully) is a natural outgrowth and expansion for the continuation of the highly successful Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, Delta GEMS was created to “catch the dreams” of adolescent girls aged 14-18. Delta GEMS provides the framework to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a “CAN DO” attitude. Delta GEMS is geared toward inspiring and enriching young women. Delta GEMS will participate in public service projects, college preparatory workshops, bonding activities, and social outings. Program Schedule: Meets monthly on Saturdays from November through June, typically on the first Saturday of the month. |
Jabberwock
For high school Junior and Senior girls
Jabberwock is a cultural and fundraising activity for scholarships and other public service programs.It was conceived in 1925 by Marion Hope Conover, a member of the Iota Chapter in Boston, MA as a unique means of raising scholarship funds. The word "Jabberwock", copyrighted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in 1947 was taken from Lewis Carroll's tale, Alice's Adventure in Wonderland. The first Jabberwock was a musical variety show that consisted of skits and dances. It has since evolved across our organization into a more diverse program that raises funds for scholarships, to celebrate young women, and advance the goals and objectives of our chapter's public service initiatives. The Jabberwock Cotillion provides monthly workshops on personal care, etiquette, self-esteem, education, college prep/careers and other topics that contribute to the young ladies emotional, social, physical and mental growth and development. The workshops culminate with the cotillion, which provides the opportunity to introduce our Debutantes to the Boston community at large. Program Schedule: Meets monthly on Saturdays from November through March, typically on the second Saturday of the month. Participants should also anticipate dance rehearsals in April leading up to the Jabberwock Cotillion in May.

Afternoon of African American Culture for Children (AAACC) For children ages 4-12 |
Afternoon of African American Culture for Children (AAACC) is a free, annual youth enrichment program that has celebrated African American history, culture, and achievement for more than 40 years. Designed for children ages 4 to 12 and their families, the program uses storytelling, music, arts, interactive activities, and live performances to foster cultural pride, creativity, and positive identity development. AAACC provides a welcoming community space where young people learn, celebrate their heritage, and build meaningful connections while honoring the richness and diversity of the African American experience. Program Schedule: Annual one-day program hosted on a Saturday in February, usually during Boston Public School February school vacation |
